FOX’s New Mutants film started out as a very promising idea. Let’s take one of the b-level Mutant teams from the Marvel Universe and turn the comic book genre on its ear by making it a horror film. The idea is interesting, but it has been a mess from the start. Bad screenings, re-shoots and then more re-shoots. Now no one knows when, or even if the movie is going to come out. There’s a good chance that, now that Disney has taken the reins, the film may be slotted into a release on Disney+ or possibly even Hulu where they seem to be pushing their more adult content. The funny thing is that even the cast of the film seems to be completely in the dark. Here’s what happened when the film was brought up in a recent interview between Maisie Williams (Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane) and Rolling Stone.

“She doesn’t mince words on the situation. “Who knows when the [frick] that’s gonna come out,” she says. There were supposed to be reshoots to “make it scarier,” she explains, but they haven’t actually taken place. She says she saw one of her co-stars, Charlie Heaton, the other day and asked him, “What the [frick] is going on with this movie?” He didn’t know either. She smiles. “Hopefully this interview will make everyone hurry up a little bit!” If it does ever come out, both she and Turner — who plays Jean Grey over in the main X-Men movies — are dying to get their characters together. “It would be ridiculously stupid if they didn’t do that,” Williams says.”

It’s starting to feel like Disney might end up pushing this film down the same memory hole as Roger Corman’s Fantastic Four.
