It was announced a while back that two big 80’s actors would be joining the cast of Stranger things: Paul Riser and Sean Astin. While we already knew that Riser would be taking on the role of the antagonist (In an nod to his role in Aliens), The cast and crew have been hush about details of Sean Astin’s role.

Now, the news is out, thanks to Art Director Bill Davis. It seems that not only is Astin’s character another former classmate of David Harbour’s Hopper and Winona Ryder‘s Joyce, but he’s now also Joyce’s new boyfriend… and Hopper is not too pleased about it.

He went on to talk about the basic timeline for season 2:

“It’s a year later in the story, so there are several things that happened last year — like Will has come back — there are certain people in the town that know what happened, and then certain people that don’t know what happened. So there’s a lot of fall out with who knows what.”

He even made a point to mention the fallout from Barb’s death.

“The question and the feelings that Nancy has that no one ever cares about her friend Barb, are very much present in the beginning of the season.”
