Halloween in the Time of Cholera, 1940s

Below is a collection of vintage photographs from collector Steven Martin.

Dubbing his haunting time capsule collection, “Halloween in the Time of Cholera,” Martin told Wired.com in an e-mail interview:

“The idea being that people back then were probably on a more intimate level with death — and that would have affected the way they celebrated Halloween.”

His collection which he amassed through ebay, can be viewed in full on his Flickr site.
