Just when you thought Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro was already busy working on writing and pre-production for The Hobbit (directed by Peter Jackson), Guillermo confirms recently that he is also currently involved in two new projects. Both of which are puppet based, and quite similar to the spectacular opening sequence in Hellboy II which was just released on DVD last Tuesday.
Although Guillermo states that while he cannot reveal information of one of his new projects, the other will be a full stop-motion version of Gris Grimly’s Pinocchio. AKA, not your watered down “G” rated kiddie Disney version.
“We are trying to get a full stop-motion version of Gris Grimly’s Pinocchio off the ground, with the Jim Henson Company. The idea came from Gris, and everybody loves his book about it. The original story is far more perverse and spooky and semi-necrophilia vibe to it in certain aspects. Gris certainly has that vein in him, he wants to do this with that original spookiness in it, we are trying to get it going. The Jim Henson Company is the behind it and we are currently working on the screenplay,” explains Guillermo.
Because the film will be entirely puppet based, del Toro adds that the film would unlikely be completed within the next few years.
