I’m having a hard time getting excited about Aquaman. Wonder Woman shows some promise and the upcoming Batman film with Ben Affleck reprising his role of Batman and Joe Manganiello taking on the bad guy role of Deathstroke, sounds like it could actually kick ass. But this is Aquaman. It’s not even the fake Aquaman that James Cameron made in the HBO series, Entourage. It’s Jason Mamoa, who is fun to watch, but not really the greatest actor, and what will probably be a color palette that is so dark, if it stays in line with the art direction set up by Zack Snyder, that I probably won’t be able to tell what’s going on in most of the under water scenes.
If there’s a a bright spot in the upcoming James Wan film, it’s that Patrick Wilson has just been cast as one of the main baddies, Ocean Master. Deadline is reporting that James Wan personally picked him to take on the role of Aquaman’s half brother, who wants to take over the throne of Atlantis himself. In other news, it means that they couldn’t think up a better storyline than that.
Wilson and Wan have previously worked together on the Conjuring movie series, and this is also not Wilson’s first turn in a comic book movie. You may remember him from Zack Snyder’s Watchmen, where he played the role of Nite Owl.
