It was just a couple months ago that fans watched the series finale of Star Wars: Rebels. While the show actually provided an excellent jumping off point for a new series that could star Ahsoka and Sabine, it looks like Dave Filoni has decided to take the animated universe in another direction.
It was announced today that the new series, Star Wars: Resistance would be set just prior to The Force Awakens and would feature Oscar Isaacs as Poe Dameron, Gwendolyn Christie as Phasma, and BB-8 as himself. The main character of the series is a young Resistance pilot by the name of Kazuda Xiono who has been tasked with spying on the First Order. Filling out the voice cast are some familiar names that include: Christopher Sean, Suzie McGrath, Scott Lawrence, Myrna Velasco, Josh Brener, Donald Faison, Bobby Moynihan, Jim Rash, and Rachel Butera.
On how the series developed, this is what Dave Filoni had to say:
The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots. My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.
