It looks like we won’t be getting a trailer for ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ during the Super Bowl, but we are at least starting to get little bits here and there from the production of the as of yet unnamed film. Today we got word that one of the world’s most famous droids has wrapped up his part in the film. We’re talking about Anthony Daniels’ C-3PO. Here’s the message he sent out to fans today via Twitter:
Today was 3PO’s last on Episode IX. He’s sad – so am I. But we’re so proud to have worked with such a lovely, talented cast & crew lead by J.J. & Kathy. I’ll miss everyone but I’m glad to know that we’ve been making something exceptional together, to share with the waiting world.
The one thing this post doesn’t answer is whether he is done with the film or if he is saying goodbye to his role as C-3PO for good. If it is the latter, it would be hard to blame him. He’s been cramped into a metal suit off and on for the last 41 years. Meanwhile, the original R2-D2 (Kenny Baker) has passed away, and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) has retired and been replaced by Finnish actor, Joonas Suotamo. For a long time now, it has been said that this movie would be the end of the Skywalker saga. If it is true, it would make sense that the Skywalker droids would also finish their arcs here as well.
