“District 9” director Neill Blomkamp will begin writing and preparing the visual effects for his next, and as of yet untitled sci-fi, after Media Rights Capital green lite it with actual greens.
While not much is known about Blomkamp’s next project, what we do know is that it has been billed as a violent pic taking place on another planet. It will go into production mid 2010 and carry a larger budget than the $30 million used to produce the epically awesome “District 9,” but smaller than most Hollywood sci-fi blockbusters.
“I’m not particularly interested in massive budget films, or creating huge spectacles that some young directors might be attracted to,” Blomkamp said. “Hopefully, this will be a bit unique, very much a reflection of me. It is absolutely another science fiction film, quite different from District 9, but some of the blending of genres and the tone might be within the same realm.”
Peter Jackson, who mentored Blomkamp throughout the production of District 9, is not involved.
