Some fans are still in shock of David Zaslav’s decision to shelve the formerly upcoming Batgirl movie, but now we are getting word that the film wasn’t just shelved and hidden in a dark corner of the WB vault. They deleted it from the server.
In a new interview with SKRIPT, directors Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah talked about how they tried to quickly copy some of the footage from the film off of the server as soon as new came down that the film was canceled, but it had already been deleted. The team wasn’t even able to save the footage of Michael Keaton as Batman.
Is the footage truly gone for good? Probably not. We’re sure it will find a way back to the light in a few years, but when that happens, Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah warn that the movie is not really watchable in its current state. Despite the fact that the film had already begun test screenings, they didn’t have any of the VFX in place, there was a lot of editing left to do, and there were even still some scenes left to shoot.
