Before there was Matt Reeves and the newly cast Robert Pattinson as Batman, there was Batfleck. Ben Affleck had a rough go of it as the caped crusader. Some fans were against him from the start and others felt he was the best part of a failed DCEU led by Zack Snyder. We’ll never really know because Affleck didn’t get the chance to make the solo Batman film that he was set to direct. However, now that the dust has settled, we are learning some of the details about the Batman film that almost was.
Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood cinematographer, Robert Richardson was attached to work on the film with Affleck and the subject of the Batman movie came up in a recent interview on the Happysadconfused podcast. The biggest detail he gave away about the project is that it would have taken place inside Arkham Asylum.
“He was going into the more insanity aspects…He was entering more into the Arkham, he’s going into where everyone was bad. That’s where we were going. I was very interested in that one.”
However, bad ticket sales on Justice League wasn’t the only reason that the film never got made. He went on to say that there was a script for the film, but they weren’t able to get to the point where they had a script that everyone loved and wanted to make.
