After years of delays and studio shifts, Martin Scorcese’s The Irishman is finally ready and we just got our first look at the trailer. The quick take is that it looks like a Scorcese movie. If you liked Casino or Goodfella’s, this movie is definitely going to be right up your alley, and that includes the cast of mobster movie all-stars that includes Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Harvey Keitel, and Joe Pesci who came out of retirement for the film.

If there’s one thing that gives me pause about this film, it’s the de-aging technology that is on display throughout the whole trailer, but especially in the final scene. It looks like CGI de-aging tech that is on-par with Trong Legacy or recent deep fakes. You can see the CGI and it’s distracting. Like 3D, new toys are sometimes hard for directors to resist when it comes to filmmaking. It just feels like maybe the toys he used weren’t ready for the playground.

Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci star in Martin Scorsese’s THE IRISHMAN, an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th century. Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics.
