In the last 24 hours, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has reached the $1 billion mark at the box office. While fans are still arguing about whether or not it is a fitting end to the saga, word is now out that a draft of the script from  Colin Trevorrow has now leaked online.  Trevorrow (Jurassic World) was slated to finish up the trilogy before creative differences sent him packing and Disney brought JJ Abrams in to finish what he had started with The Force Awakens. In the hours since the script has leaked, it has now been authenticated and many of its details are now finding their way online. Here’s a breakdown of everything we currently know about what could have happened in Star Wars: Duel Of The Fates.

The Opening Crawl:

The iron grip of the FIRST ORDER has spread to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. Only a few scattered planets remain unoccupied. Traitorous acts are punishable by death. Determined to suffocate a growing unrest, Supreme Leader KYLO REN has silenced all communication between neighboring systems. Led by GENERAL LEIA ORGANA, the Resistance has planned a secret mission to prevent their annihilation and forge a path to freedom…

No Palpatine

The new script has no appearance by Emperor Palpatine beyond a message Kylo Ren finds in a Sith Holocron that was left for Darth Vader. That message sends Kylo Ren on a mission to find Tor Valum, Palpatine’s Sith teacher, so that he may grow even stronger.

Finn and Rose

The two characters who were shipped the hardest in The Last Jedi are now on a mission to Coruscant together with R2 and C3PO to find and light a beacon of some kind. During their mission, they help out a group of stormtroopers that are fighting against the First Order, and they gather up a bunch of force-sensitive kids and bring them to Rey.

Poe Dameron

It sounds as though Poe would have pretty much just been Rey’s sidekick in this version of the film.

Rey’s Weapon

According to reports on the script, Rey creates a double-sided lightsaber that combines her staff with the salvaged pieces of Luke’s Saber.

Other Tidbits

  • Luke appears as a ghost to both Kylo and Rey.
  • The Good Guys Steal a star destroyer
  • Kylo still dies, but without a redemption moment
  • Kylo admits to having killed Rey’s parent’s on the order of Snoke
  • Chewie Pilots an X-Wing during the final space battle over coruscant
  • Rey and Poe face off against Kylo on the planet Mortis

There is a lot here that Star Wars fans who didn’t like The Rise of Skywalker are going to argue about for the next several years. But, the reality is that the script on the page is rarely the one that ends up on screen.
