McG was slotted to direct the upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe remake for Sony, but it looks like the man who brought Charlie’s Angels to the big screen isn’t going to make it to Eternia. According to EW, the script is being tackled by Man of Steel and Batman Begins scribe David S. Goyer. All that’s left (other than casting), is figuring out who is going to shoot the damned thing. Currently the biggest buzz is around Chris McKay after his success adapting Lego Batman to film, but he’s already slotted for the live action Nightwing movie, so I wouldn’t count on it. That leaves Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid remake), Chris McKay (The LEGO Batman Movie), and Mike Cahill (Another Earth), so possible they’ll go back to that well or maybe they’ll search for fresh blood—McKay is likely out of the running, as he’s currently attached to a live-action Nightwing movie at Warner Bros.
Along with the news of McG’s departure, we also got a release date of December 18, 2018. No one knows what to expect from the film, but this is what happened the last time they tried to make a He-Man movie…
