What’s the best way to keep Dwayne Johnson involved in the Fast and Furious films without him and Vi Diesel clashing? Give him a spin-off! Despite the fact that it’s pretty much been stated that Fast and Furious 10 will be the formal end to the film series, there’s no way that the studio is going to let a franchise whose 8th film just garnered over $500 million in its first weekend at theaters drive gently into that good night.
That’s where spin-offs come in. One of the best parts of the new film is the chemistry beween Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw. It turns out that fans weren’t the only ones who noticed. Universal is now developing a spin-off that would allegedly be centered around those two characters and Charliz Theron’s character. The film would supposedly see them forming an “an unlikely alliance” to take on a greater evil.
This isn’t the first time the idea of a Hobbs based spin-off has come up. After Johnson’s first turn as the character, there was a lot buzz about its potential. The difference now is that the franchise is matured and its two biggest stars apparently don’t care for each other. If you watch closely, you’ll notice that Johnson and Diesel don’t actually ever appear on screen together in the new movie. There are even times when they employ doubles and CG to make it happen.
