My first reaction to hearing there was going to be a Playmobil movie was “well ya, LEGO made money on it, so why wouldn’t a producer try it again with the brand that everyone thinks of after them?” That feeling has carried through to today when we have now gotten a chance to see the first trailer for the film.
It feels like a reaction to the LEGO movie more than it’s own thing. It will be interesting to see if the voice cast of Gabriel Bateman, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jim Gaffigan, Daniel Radcliffe, and Meghan Trainor are enough to get fans to take a chance on a film that feels like one they’ve already seen. So far, the biggest difference s between the two are that the children from the real world will be directly involved in this story and Playmobil doesn’t have the countless licenses that LEGO had at their disposal to hide behind for fan service moments.
