We won’t know how the nine-episode Skywalker Star Wars saga will end until the film hits theaters in December, but it sounds like the cast might not even know how things are going to turn out. In a recent red carpet interview, Daisy Ridley was asked about the end of the film and she revealed that it changed over time and a whole new ending was brought in that she isn’t even sure will be used.

“J.J. had told me [the ending], and then I read the script, and then it was sort of shifting. The ending was always pretty similar, and then I was told there was sort of a new—I guess a slightly different beat added that I was told, which was awesome. Because it’s nice to be told the thing and then you can like, experience it with the filmmaker. But also, we don’t know how it’s gonna turn out. We did the thing on this side of the camera, so we don’t know how it’s gonna turn out. So I’m as excited to see it as everyone else.”

It’s not uncommon for a film to shoot multiple endings. There are rumors that Game of Thrones and Avengers: Endgame each has as many as eight alternate endings in the can to deal with possible spoilers or changes in the editing room. It’s also possible that Disney wants an alternate ending to have in place in case test screenings warrant a change. Either way, we’ll know one way or another by the end of the year.
