Are we entering an age of successful video game adaptations? Sonic The Hedgehog was way better than it should have been. The Super Mario Bros movie looks genuinely good. Even Detective Pikachu was decent. Now we’ve got a film on the way for Gears of War and according to Variety, the film now has a writer.
According to reports the film will be scripted by Jon Spaihts, the man who wrote the screenplays for both Denis Villenueve’s Dune and Doctor Strange. With that said, it is rare that every movie someone writes is a hit, so we have to also consider that Spaihts also wrote Passengers, Prometheus, and the Tom Cruise reboot of The Mummy.
There are no details on the film, but we do know that it is being made with Netflix. As to whether that means it will be exclusive to the streamer or something they release on the big screen (like the Glass Onion movies) is something we we probably won’t know for at least 12 months.
