A few days ago, news broke that Henry Cavill would be taking the role of Geralt in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of the Witcher novels. When that story came out, many fans were left wondering what that meant for his continuing role as Superman in the DCEU. Well, according to THR, fans no longer have to wonder because it seems that the Mission Impossible: Fallout star is out. This makes him the second major DCEU actor after Ben Affleck’s Batman who will not be returning to the role.
Don’t expect Warner Bros to recast the role anytime soon because the studio is now shifting its focus towards a Supergirl movie. It was hoped that Cavill would cameo in Shazam!, but negotiations fell apart over scheduling conflicts.
Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is the only remaining “original three” hero from the DCEU currently left standing. Jason Mamoa is also still in the mix with his highly anticipated Aquaman film and Ezra Miller is still slated to reprise his role as The Flash in a movie that has yet to start production. Recent fan theories have Guardians of The Galaxy director James Gunn coming in to take over The Flash. If that is the case, it would not be a big surprise if they use Gunn to help design a soft reboot of the universe that will let them keep the heroes they want and start over on the roles that are now vacant.
