Sixteen years ago this month, I Am Legend hit theaters starring Will Smith and a dog against a world full of vampires. With a cult following that has kept the film alive with fans over the years, the movie is slated to get the sequel treatment… even though Smith’s character technically died in the original. The good news is that he only died in the theatrical cut, not in the alternate ending that was released with the DVD. So, that will be the jumping off point for the new trailer.
In recent interviews, Smith has talked about some of the film’s plot details as well as the fact that it will co-star Michael B Jordan as his son.
On whether Jordan is officially part of the film, he had this to say:
“I have a call with Michael B. Jordan tomorrow. The script just came in. I’m probably giving away too much information. We’re going with the mythology of the DVD version where my character lived. I can’t tell you any more. But Michael B. Jordan is in and we’re doing it.”
Meanwhile, here’s what the film’s screenwriter, Akiva Goldsmith had to say about the story:
“This will start a few decades later than the first…I’m obsessed with The Last of Us, where we see the world just post-apocalypse but also after a 20-30-year lapse. We trace back to the original Matheson book, and the alternate ending as opposed to the released ending in the original film.”
