In the last few years, Doctor Who fans got to see something they never thought would happen, Two well-loved Doctors, on screen together. Now, it looks like Whovians might be in for another first, a Doctor returning for a second round in a new regeneration!

Right now, Peter Capaldi is in the process of filming the next season of Doctor Who, but there are rumors swirling that it will be his last. That would compound the upcoming loss of Stephen Moffat, who has also announced that he will be leaving at the end of the season. In a recent interview, Moffat told reporters that Matt Smith has been “quite open about how much he misses it, and how much he wishes he hadn’t left.” For his part, Smith has made no secret of wanting to come back, stating plainly: “I really want to.”

In the years since spending his days in the Tardis, Smith has had success on the stage with plays like American Psycho, and is currently playing a young Prince Philip for upcoming Netflix drama, The Crown, alongside Claire Foy, who will play Queen Elizabeth II. His big splash in American Cinema was to be the most recent Terminator film. Unfortunately, it was a steaming load of badness.

We know that Doctor Who will have a presence at Comic Con this month. It will be interesting to see if any announcements are made. Personally, I’d love to see them announce a really bad choice, like Jack Black. Then, have black on set for fake out value with the media and then give the audience a real surprise at the end of the episode.
