We have not talked about the Jonathan Majors situation on the site because his trial was ongoing. That is no longer the case. He was found guilty in his domestic abuse trial of reckless assault in the third degree and guilty of harassment. People immediately started speculating on how long it would be before Disney dropped the hammer on him, and it took less than an hour.
Disney has now officially fired Majors from his role of Kang the Conqueror in the MCU. He’s appeared in both seasons of Loki as well as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. He was also slated to be this phase of the MCU’s Thanos-level villain, culminating in Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.
It is a pretty safe bet that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has been preparing for this eventuality. And, with the added fact that Kang has just not worked out as a very good MCU villain, this might be the chance he was looking for to pivot out of the divisive Multiverse saga that Marvel seems to be stuck in at the moment.
Option 1:
That could recast Kang. They recast War Machine with Don Cheadle and they recast Thunderbolt Ross with Harrison Ford. It would be completely reasonable for them to pick a new actor to take over the role.
Option 2:
Pivot! Loki Season 2 is actually a decent stopping point for both Kang and the Multiverse. This could be a great time to let that phase go and move on to a new phase where we get to meet characters like The Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom. That would play in really well to the upcoming Secret Wars movie… if they even keep that movie on the slate.
