Lionsgate announced recently that they have acquired the distribution rights for the new 3D “Judge Dredd” film staring Karl Urban (Red) as the title character and Olivia Thirlby (Juno) as Cassandra Anderson, a psychic rookie shadowing Dredd.
Directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point), “Judge Dredd” has a small $45 million dollar budget and will begin production on November 12th in Cape Town, South Africa.
Written by Alex Garland, “Judge Dredd” will be a loose adaptation of John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s cult classic comic book series of the same name. It takes place in a post apocalypse American city known as Mega City One, where law enforcement officers are both judge, jury and executioner.
