I’ve really been enjoying the marketing push behind Damien Chazelle’s (Whiplash) upcoming musical, La La Land. The film, which stars Ryan Gossling and Emma Stone looks to be one of the first film sin a long time to really capture the magic of the old fashioned Hollywood Musical. Basically, any Baz Lurhman film, but if the director wasn’t on acid.
While not much has been released about the film, the two trailers we’ve seen (including this new one) have not only been beautiful to look at, but have also each released a new song from the film’s original soundtrack. So far, they’ve both been good, and they’ve both made me that much more excited about seeing the film when it comes out on December 16th.
Along with Gossling and Stone, the film also stars John Legend, Rosemarie DeWitt, Finn Wittrock, Callie Hernandez, Sonoya Mizuno, Jessica Rothe, Tom Everett Scott, and Josh Pence.
Written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Damien Chazelle, LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.
