Its always tricky when a US film studio tries to create a live action adaptation of an anime or Manga for American audiences. They’ve been trying to do it for years with Akira. Alita Battle Angel kind of did it with mixed results. Death Note completely pooped the bed, and we’ll see how well Netflix sticks the landing with the upcoming Jon Cho led adaptation of Cowboy Bebop. Now, Sony is looking to take one of the biggest current anime/manga franchise and turn it into as much money as they can. So, once dust settles on this pandemic, we can eventually look forward to One Punch Man.

News of the film broke yesterday via Variety. The new film is being written by the team behind Venom and is being produced by Avi Arad, the man who produced all the pre-MCU Marvel films. Neither of those announcements particularly fills us with any great amount of confidence.

According to the report, Sony sees the new film as definite franchise material.
