A major spoiler has been revealed online that could blow a hole in the big plot twist for Joss Whedon’s upcoming “The Avengers.” Consider this a serious spoiler warning…
As some of us may already know, Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) is cast as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill, and basically second in command to Nick Fury. Recently on the popular movie archive site IMDB, Smulders’ info has been updated to say that she is also playing another character in the movie called Anelle.
What’s the big deal you ask? The big deal is, Anelle is also the princess and heir to the Skrull empire. It looks as if the Skrull will invade and that Maria Hill will not just be an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. but also a Skrull!
This of course does not mean she will lead the invasion. If anything I think she’ll deflect and end up aiding the Avengers as her character is known for opposing her father’s policies.
The Skrulls probably won’t be a big part of the first Avengers movie, but with this unveil is there any doubt that will ultimately play a large role in “The Avengers” film? If not the first film, definitely in the sequel.
In fact, that’s how I think it’ll play out. We probably won’t hear much about them until the end when Maria Hill is discovered to be a Skrull… dum dum dum! End scene.
“The Avengers” is set to be released in theaters May 4th, 2012.
