Marvel has not really had an idea of what to do with Blade since their last attempt to reboot the character into a TV series starring Sticky Fingaz that aired briefly in 2006. Well, it looks like they have figured it out. In a big announcement that felt like a sidenote in today’s Hall H landslide of information, Kevin Feige announced that Blade is back and this time he’ll be portrayed by 2-time Oscar winner, Mahershala Ali.

This isn’t Mahershala Ali’s first foray into Marvel. He was just featured in the Netflix Luke Cage series. As to the hopes that Wesley Snipes would be back in the role of the Daywalking half-human, half-vampire, it’s just not going to happen. If nothing else, Snipes has been known to be incredibly hard to work with during Blade films due to his method acting style. Also, it’s time to freshen things up. However, if you want to see what Snipes would look like now as Blade, you can get a quick glimpse of him (along with Tilda Swinton, Taika Waititi, Paul Ruebens, and Danny Trejo) in the Vampire reunion scene from the first season of FXX’s ‘What We Do In The Shadows.’
