Before turning to ash, Nick Fury (Sam Jackson) and Agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) sent off an emergency message to Captain Marvel. While they may not play too much of a role in Avengers 4, it’s now been announced that they will be popping up in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
The report from Deadline broke the story without giving away any details of how big a role the two will play in the film. If they are saved by the events of Avengers 4, it’s possible that they could be recruiting Peter to help fight against the secret Skrull invasion that many fans are theorizing will dominate the next phase of the MCU.
Jackson and Smulders join a cast that already includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Tony Revolori. New additions to the franchise include (probably) Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio.
There is, of course, one other possibility, but it’s so weird that there’s little to no chance that it could be true. If we pop on our conspiracy theory hats for a second, we can see it playing out like this. Everyone who has been dusted in Infinity War isn’t dead but is living in a sort of mirror world, inside the soul Gem. They may not even know they are dead. Fury, being the smarty that he is, has figured it out and he’s recruiting Spider-Man at the end of his sequel adventure to join a team and help them all find a way out of the gem. Spider-Man’s sequel adventure takes place in Paris. That means the hero will be far from home, but what if he’s far from home in a way that we hadn’t even considered and he is one of the billions of people now trapped in the gem’s reality?
Yeah. We know this isn’t going to be the case, but it’s fun to imagine stuff sometimes.
