Update On The Louis Leterrier Directed ‘Y: The Last Man’ Adaptation

Louis Leterrier (Clash of the Titans) who has been attached to direct Brian K. Vaughan’s epic comic book series “Y: The Last Man” recently spoke to MTV Splash about the current situation plaguing the adaption to the big screen. According to Leterrier, the project is currently stuck in development hell, with disagreements over how to best adapt the 60-issue comic book series.

When asked, this was what Leterrier had to say:
I still want to do it. I’m passionate about it. But it’s stuck. People don’t know what to do with it. I’d love to do it, but I need people to finance it, and the people financing it don’t know if it’s a TV show a movie, or what it should be.

Moreover, according to Leterrier, he believes the series would work best as a TV show:
You take time to get to know your characters. You can introduce a lot of characters. You don’t need your three-action set pieces that you usually need for movies. Frankly, with HBO and Showtime and cable shows, the DVD box sets and all, you can have a product that doesn’t make you feel like as soon as it’s projected, it’s thrown away. It’s really a piece of art.

“Y: The Last Man” follows the story of Yorick Brown, who becomes the last man on Earth after a mysterious plague wipes out every living creature with a Y chromosome. And if studio heads would stop snorting coke off prostitutes then maybe they’d realize that Leterrier (along with everyone online) is right. All one has to do is look at how AMC is handling Image’s “The Walking Dead.” See how fast they went into production and on the air? And to those tying up the “Preacher” property, I hope you’re paying attention too!
