The other day we showed you the English language trailer for Studio Ghibli’s Arriety, an anime adaptation of the classic novel ‘The Borrowers’. Today we’ve got a new treat from Hayao Myazaki and the rest of the crew that made movies like Totoro, Ponyo, Princess Monononke, Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle.
This trailer is from his newest film, ‘From Up on Poppy Hill’ (Kokurikozaka kara). This film is a lot like some of Myazaki’s earlier work. It is not an action packed adventure as much as it is a character driven teen drama. He wrote the screenplay off a 1980 Manga by Tetsurō Sayama and drawn by Chizuru Takahashi. Myazaki’s son, Goro, will be taking the reigns on directing the movie.
The film is set in the mid 60’s and is about a girl who must fend for herself with a missing father and an absentee mother while she manages a boarding house and deals with her feelings for a couple of boys.
