On the 4th of July, My girlfriend, her best friend, and her boyfriend headed over to Disney World for some fun and some seriously kick-ass fireworks. While walking through The Land pavilion, I started talking about a show that used to be where Soarin now resides. It was called the Kitchen Kabaret Review and it featured a 1940’s style musical review about food performed entirely by animatronic fruits and veggies. It had everything from an Abbot and Costello style Ham and Egg’s duo, to a horn blowing loaf of bread, and even a trio of sultry dairy products.
As a kid, I used to love this show, and was crushed (not quite as badly as when they ruined the Figment ride) when they replaced it with a modernized show called “Food Rocks.” It’s no surprise that it was eventually shut down and replaced with Soarin, which is great, but just not the same.
Sadly, none of the people with me had heard of the show and several of the park employees had no idea what I was talking about. Thankfully, the internet never forgets. I was able to find a great recording of the Kitchen Kabaret on YouTube. Check it out below.
