Scientists have been looking at acoustic tractor beams as a way to move objects for several years now, but until now, the technology could only be used to move tiny objects. While that makes for a great Youtube video, it isn’t that handy when you want to move a larger object, like people.
Researchers at the University of Bristol have now developed an updated version of the tech that uses rapidly shifting acoustic vortices to trap and move larger objects in a tornado of sound.
