Brisbane’s Carbrooks Golf Club, First Golf Course Infested With Sharks

Talk about an extreme water hazard. On the 14th tee at the Carbrook Golf Club in Brisbane, golfers have another reason to be concerned. And it has nothing to do with hitting balls into the lake.

Ever since the golf course was flooded years ago after a river broke its bank, bull sharks have been stranded in the lakes. There, they have been thriving and even breeding.

Known to be unpredictable and often aggressive, bull sharks is famous of its ability to thrive in both saltwater and freshwater and can travel far up rivers and shallow waters along the coast.

According to Club general manager Scott Wagstaff, “You can’t believe how close you are…Just six feet away. Although the lake is well stocked with fish, Mr Wagstaff sometimes throws in meat to encourage the sharks to come near the surface.

“I’m sure they are aggressive when you are in the water but when you are out here feeding them they are beautiful to watch.”

I’m not sure what I’d be more worried about, sharks or gators. But whatever the case, I’m sure there are a lot of unclaimed balls in that lake.
