China’s Adorable Panda Solar Farm

Some people have complained that the biggest problem with solar farms is that they are unsightly, China has figured out a solution, just arrange the panels to look like giant pandas! The new solar farm, which is just phase one of a bigger plan is already cranking out 50 megawatts (MW) of clean energy. It was created out of an agreement between Panda Green Energy and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

When the Panda Power Plant is complete, it will it will be able to reach a capacity of 100 Megawatts. Now, if you are wondering how they achieved the different colors on the panels: The black panels are made of monocrystalline silicone solar cells, while the grey and white panels on the face and belly are made of thin film solar cells.

As to how much the plant will truly produce, owners say it will be able to offer 3.2 billion kilowatt-hours of green power in 25 years, according to the company. That will help save China from burning 1.056 million tons of coal and will reduce carbon emissions by 2.74 million tons.

There are currently plans to build several more Panda Power Plants both around China and outside of the country.
