Forget Maid Cafes, Japan Now Has Maid Gyms

Maid cafe’s are a big deal in Japan. In fact, they’ve gotten so popular that they have even begun diversifying into niches like Shangrila’s “plump” maids to Ita-Cafe’s uniformed Russian girls. Now, some enterprising people are seeing if the success of the maid cafe’s can be transferred over to other aspects of life… how about having a maid help you get in shape? Maid GYM is getting read to open in Akihabara.

The new business is actually the result of a crowdfunding campaign called the MAID GYM project. The campaign reached its goal on the Japanese crowdfunding site, Campfire with more than a month to go before their deadline.

Working out with a maid, however, will not come cheap. You can expect to pay 7,500 yen (US$66) for 50 minutes, which includes a sports drink and protein drink. That doesn’t include your gym membership, 10,000-yen (US$88.79) that must be paid before your first session.

For the fee, you’ll get a maid that will be working with no more than 2 people at a time, who will help you use the machines properly and guide you in your form as you exercise. They will also offer you all the verbal support you can handle.
