Gamestop has been having a lot of trouble over the last several years, not the least of which was their acquisition of Thinkgeek. With the COVID-19 pandemic only adding to their woes, the company is closing some doors. Today it was announced that the chain would be increasing their planned number of store closings for 2020 from around 150 to somewhere between 300-450 by the end of the year. Additionally, an undisclosed number of stores are set to shutter in 2021.
GameStop CFO Jim Bell said that the closures:
“will allow us to more efficiently and profitably service our customers.” He added “there are more to do”, meaning closures, in 2021 “as well.”
