Ten years ago today on February 16th, 2001, the Internet culture was forever changed when the “All Your Base Are Belong To Us” music video was uploaded to Newgrounds.com. The video which featured the horribly translated space shooter Zero Wing, became one of the first popular example of Engrish and went on to become an instant Internet phenomenon.
“All Your Base Are Belong to Us” became so popular during the dawning of the 21st century that it spawned thousands of image macros and flash animations featuring the slogan both on the web and in real life.
As reported by knowyourmeme, after the video was uploaded to Newgrounds.com by Bad_CRC, the meme became mainstream and was talked about first in Wired and then the San Francisco Chronicle, The Guardian, Memepool, USA Today and Metafilter.
To this day, “All Your Base Are Belong to Us” is arguably one of the earliest and most trend about Internet meme/viral video of all time.
With that said, happy 10th birthday! Thank you for all the memories.
