Sure, it may sound like a joke to you, but in Sweden, the land of blondes and… well, blondes, it has become more than just a punchline. It is the answer to keeping warm this winter. In a move that probably has PETA angrier than… well, they normally are, thousands of dead bunnies are being burned
in a Swedish heating plant to help keep the people toasty this winter.

While the thought of turning bunnies into biofuel is helping to save lives and keep people warm, there are of course a few activists who have gotten their fluffy tails in a bunch.

“Those who support the culling of rabbits surely think it’s good to use the bodies for a good cause. But it feels like they’re trying to turn the animals into an industry rather than look at the main problem,” Anna Johannesson of Vilda kaniners värn (‘Society for the Protection of Wild Rabbits’) told the local Vårt Kungsholmen newspaper.

The fact is, bunnies may be cute, but they are a menace in Sweden. Every year they have to kill thousands of them to prevent the decimation of local parks and trees.

It being fall, the city’s rabbit hunt is picking up speed because the lack of leaves on trees make these little hopping bits of coal that much easier to find.

Plus, you know what rabbits do… they multiply, so this is a truly renewable resource. Heck, they probably can’t even burn them fast enough.

Besides, who wants to throw 6,000 bunnies in a land fill? That would be cruel. Think of this as an honorable viking funeral. A toasty, warm and cuddly viking funeral.
