Although it is no laughing matter that more than 90,000 people are still living in temporary shelters in Japan due to the devastating earthquake, Atelier Opa, a Japanese design company was inspired to come up with this creative and cheap temporary shelter giving new meaning to “living in a cardboard box.”
The cardboard shelters looks similar to a child’s playhouse and are designed to offer some privacy and comfort to those still living in the cramped conditions communal shelters.
What is most impressive about the project is that Atelier Opa has also made their design available publicly under Creative Commons license so that any group of volunteers or charity organizations can replicate them free of charge.
