This just in from the “No S#!t, Sherlock!” department, a US government department has now officially proclaimed Twitter to be a steaming hot pile of garbage. If you didn’t know this, The Library of Congress was attempting to take on the task of cataloging every single tweet to be posted on Twitter. As of this morning, it’s been announced that they have given up. Instead, they’ll just focus on cataloging significant cultural and historical posts on a selective basis.
The reason for this? Well, the original deal between the library and Twitter was set up to allow them to gather all public Tweets when little was known about the direction of the fledgling media format. Now that We’ve seen how utterly crap the majority of it has become, they’ve decided that it’s just not worth it.
The good news is that they’ll be collecting every single public Tweet until midnight on New Year’s Eve. So, if you’ve got something stupid to say, tweet it before New Year’s and it will be in the public record forever!
