Despite Apple’s much-ballyhooed iPad, it has found at least one dissatisfied customer. Peter Bregman, a New York-based management consultant, said he returned his iPad within days because it was just too good.
“It’s too easy. Too accessible,” Bregman wrote on his blog. “For the most part, it does everything I could want. Which, as it turns out, is a problem.”
According to Bregman, he enjoyed the device so much that he was never bored, but he decided to return it as it was taking over his life. Bregman’s problem was that Apple’s hip tablet computer was too addictive.
“Being bored is a precious thing, a state of mind we should pursue,” Bregman wrote on his blog. “My best ideas come to me when I am unproductive.
“To lose those moments, to replace them with tasks and efficiency, is a mistake.”
Not being bored was unbearable to him. By returning his iPad, Bregman has now restored those precious empty moments and has found a new way to spend them: with his 8-year-old daughter.
