Tire manufacturer, and international restaurant rater, Michelin has just come up with a new tire concept that is honestly pretty mind blowing. They call it the Vision tire and it is a solid 3D base that can never go flat, but can be customized on the fly with 3-D printed treads to meet any of your driving needs.
The internal structure of the tire is based on the same alveolar design of the air sacs inside your lungs. their solid format will eliminate flats and blow outs, and is also both recyclable and biodegradable. Add to that the ability to 3D print new tread for the base tire as needed and you have a more reliable and durable tire that can be customized in a matter of minutes.
There’s no word on how much these new tires will cost and when/if they’ll become available to consumers, but one thing is sure, they are cool as hell.
At Movin’On, Michelin is lifting the veil on what we think mobility will look like tomorrow: an airless, rechargable, 3-D printed organic tire, developed from bio-sourced, biodegradable materials. A connected tire, it provides real-time information about its condition and is integrated with innovative services.
