New Japanese Exoskeleton Brings Us One Step Closer To Ripley’s Power-Loader

Watching Ripley take on the Alien Queen in Aliens with that Power Loader exoskeleton is one of the most enduring images of modern science fiction. Now, the Japanese have brought us one step closer with their new power amplification exoskeleton robot.

The robot suit isn’t exactly a Jaeger, but it is the first step on the path to it. Just climb inside and take control and you are lifting things heavier or hotter than you’d ever be able to with just your own measly mortal powers.

While this video is taken in a lab, they have already moved past the initial test phase of the project and are using a more compact version to assist clean up at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant that melted down a little more than a year ago.

Now we just have to wait until they come out with versions that can be used in robot boxing matches!
