New Smart Clothing Lets Deaf People Feel Music

For many people, a life without music is unfathomable. For the hearing impared, it’s an every day reality. The Sound Shirt, created by CuteCircuit, is a system that pairs strategically placed microphones at live music venues with sensors on a shirt. As different instruments play, the sensations are interpreted by the shirt transmitted to different parts of the body. For instance, the bass is felt in the stomach, while violins are felt in the arms.

I hope that future iterations of the shirt can be paired with recorded music so it can be used at home.
