Robert Mela Jr., 38, a Moorestown policeman plead not guilty Monday to charges of sexual assault of three juvenile girls and, get this, cruelty to animals involving other sex acts.
Melia Jr. is charged in a 45-count criminal indictment with multiple counts of sexual assualt that occured in the home of girls ranging between 2000 and 2008.

Melia’s former girlfriend, Heather Lewis, 33, also pleaded not guilty last week to similar charges involving the girls and a boy.
In April, police had raided Melia’s home and confiscated alleged pornographic material and melia’s computer. Both Melia and his former girlfriend were arrested April 12 and indicted just last month by
a Burlington County grand jury.
