Richard Nixon Loved Rap And Dreamed Of Being A Rapper

File this one in the ‘Today I Learned’ category. I was listening to Penn Jillette’s ‘Penn’s Sunday School’ podcast this morning and I heard a fact that was so strange that it couldn’t have been real. According to Jillette, Former US President Richard Nixon was a fan of rap music and had even said that he would have been a rapper if he had the chance to do it all over again.

Believe it or not, this is actually true! The President who was impeached for the Watergate scandal had even been recorded (according to reporting from the Washington Post) saying: “I have often thought that if there had been a good rap group around in those days, I might have chosen a career in music instead of politics.”

Sadly, we can’t find any listings of the rappers he liked, but we can only hope that someone was lucky enough to look over in traffic one day and see Nixon rapping along to NWA’s F/ The Police!
