The goal is generally to keep plastic trash out of the water, that is unless you’ve managed to take some of that trash and turn it into a stylish floating park. That’s exactly what the Recycled Island Foundation unveiled on July 4, 2018. the floating park, made entirely of recycled plastic, used over 1,000 square feet of plastic to make. It also appears that all of the plastic used in the creation of the islands were taken directly out of the Meuse River where the park now floats.
While this is currently just a prototype, it is hoped that this model could be adopted along the rivers of cities all over the world. Now, instead of polluting the water, these trash islands serve as a wildlife habitat, a place for plants to grow, and a safe spot for fish to lay their eggs.
