There’s been some talk online in the last 24 hours that Disney, in an effort to project a family friendly image for Star Wars, is quietly whitewashing the Slave Leia motif from all future merch or imaging.
If this is true, I can’t blame them for it as it does help them with the theme park expansions they are planning and the growth of loud mouth assholes like THIS ONE, who caused a stink after his daughter found a Slave Leia figure, which had been out on shelves for over a year, at the local store. It will also help them expand Star Wars into some of the globe’s less permissive regions. In the end, it is their right. However, Carrie Fisher in a metal bikini is one of the most iconic images in the Star Wars universe.
The story had gained some traction from artist J Scott Campbell, who is currently working on Star Wars comics for Marvel. He said in a recent Facebook posting in reference to Carrie Fisher’s advice to Daisy ridley: “Don’t be a slave like I was,” that she doesn’t have to worry about it at all. He had been told by multiple sources that Disney wants the bikini and everything sexualized out of Star Wars entirely.
He went on to say that Disney:
was “already well on its way to wiping out the ‘slave’ outfit from any future products period. You will NOT see and [sic] future merchandise featuring the slave outfit ever again. Trust me, I’ve heard it from two sources. We can’t even draw Leia in a sexy pose at Marvel, let alone in that outfit!”
