Segway One Step Closer To Making ‘Wall-E’ A Reality

Between personal assistants like Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant and the increase in people using mobility scooters due to obesity-related issues, it’s easy to see where Pixar got the inspiration for the state of the human race in Wall-E. Now, Segway, the creators of the preferred mode of transportation for urban tourists and mall cops has just unveiled a transportation pod that looks like it could be straight out of the film.

Set for an official unveiling at next week’s CES 2020, the Segway-Ninebot S-Pod allows riders to sit in comfort while scooting around at up to 24 mph. The big news here is that this is the first product from Segway where you can sit. Up till now, you had to stand up on the self-balancing, two-wheeled vehicles. Now you don’t even have to worry about using a single core muscle to lean forward and backward as you ride. You just sit there like a lump and use one finger on the d-pad.

Amazingly, the company claims it wasn’t Wall-E that inspired the new devices, but the gyrosphere vehicles from the Jurrasic World films. The first iteration of the product will be on display in Las Vegas next week with the Ninebot hitting retail in 2021. We can only assume that by then the vehicle will have a built-in toilet, mini-fridge, and cup-holder that can accommodate a 128 oz soda.
