You can’t swing a dead cat on the internet nowadays without finding a couple dozen fan films. In fact, some people even make their living filming them now, but imagine what it was like to make one in 1971.
This Star Trek fan film from Ray Gasser was done as a final project for a TV production class back during his final semester at Ohio State University back in 1971.
As primitive as the film might be, it is still better than a lot of what shows up on Youtube today…. and he didn’t have any fancy editing software, just a one-inch reel to reel.
Oh, and in case you are wondering, Gasser got an A-
