Students from Friedrich Schiller University, located in Jena, Germany, have created a robot using LEGOs that mimics bipedal movement in humans.
Dubbed “Pinocchio” by its inventors, it was created by Marc Heydenreich and Eric Jacob using only parts from a LEGO Mindstorms set and does an eerie job simulating human walking stride.
Accoridng to the students, Pinocchio was created to see if it was possible to create a robot could mimic human walking motion. While there are probably several more sophisticated robots that can simulate walking, this is the first made out of “inexpensive” parts from a LEGO Miindstorms NXT Kit!
